Shaolin Family Soccer (2004)

‘Shaolin Family Soccer’ (2004) imitates Mrs. Doubtfire

Shaolin Family Soccer is a movie whose title tries to ride the coat tails of Steven Chow’s popular Shaolin Soccer.

One of the actors, Wong Yat Fei (aka Yut Fei Wong), is in both movies as a Shaolin monk who can head the ball with such force that he can rip the ball through the goal net, bloody the goalkeeper’s hands, etc. Hence he is named Iron Head in the first movie.

That soccer part is about 5 minutes of the movie. The rest of the movie is a play on Mrs. Doubtfire, where Wong’s character is a grandfather trying to reunite with his son by pretending to be a nanny to his grandson. Then nanny and grandson try to reunite the estranged parents. In fact, the movie says its title is “Silly Kung Fu Family”, which more accurately describes the plot.

Better to just watch Shaolin Soccer.
