Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007)

‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ (2007) British Hindu issues

In Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, a South Asian community in England has a struggling semi-pro football team. They need to win the league or the stadium will be sold for redevelopment. Sadly, their star is enticed to play for their better all-white rivals. But the star player encounters racism on his new team. He returns to his community and saves the stadium. Lots of singing and dancing ensue.

Like Bend it Like Beckham, this movie gives insight into the Hindu community in Britain, although the tone on discrimination is handled with a heavier hand in this film. The movie is really long–162 minutes–and breaks into singing and dancing that have nothing to do with the story. I guess that’s Bollywood for you.

It’s pretty obvious the star can’t play soccer. As with Bend it Like Beckham, don’t watch this for the soccer. Watch it for your cultural education.
